Intention Over Perfection
As a professional organizer, I’ve spent much of my life striving for things to be just so—a sense of control over my surroundings when life felt unpredictable. When the world felt unsafe, order became my anchor. If I could create structure, if everything had its perfect place, then at least I could count on something.
This is how a little girl becomes a professional organizer.
This is how a little girl learns to anticipate what might happen.
This is how anxiety, nervousness, and even sharp edges in personality can form
Control?
When you can’t control the people around you, sometimes you lash out. You hold onto perfection like a lifeline. But I’m incredibly grateful for the people in my life who saw past those reactions—who recognized my need for control as a wound, not as who I truly was. They stuck with me. And because of that, I was able to heal.
At the same time, this wound gave me a gift—the ability to see how things fit. How to maximize a small space. How to place the perfect dresser in the tiniest corner. How to make order out of chaos.
But stepping fully into the world of the weird and esoteric taught me something even more powerful: Intention is always greater than perfection.
In Compass Feng Shui, everything needs to be perfectly aligned to the compass. But let’s be real—houses aren’t built perfectly, and neither are people. That’s why I chose to study BTB Feng Shui instead, which is rooted in the belief that everything is going to be okay. That intention is what truly matters.
When I finally GOT this—when I stopped gripping so tightly to how I thought things should look—that’s when the MAGIC started to show up. I gave room for the universe to CO-CREATE with me instead of feeling frustrated that things weren’t unfolding exactly how I had imagined.
My biggest example? Meeting Bill.
I never thought I would meet my love while I was homeless, taking care of my mom, and trying to find a long-term solution for us. But I just kept showing up. I was vulnerable, and he showed me kindness and sweetness. If I had still been trapped in perfectionism, I might have pushed him away—waiting for a “better” time in life. And I could have missed out on my best friend, my biggest hug, and my fiercest cheerleader. Instead, I surrendered to the universe and let him see the messy side of me while I built my life into the epic version it is today.
This lesson has given me permission to relax in so many areas of life:
Setting an intention to clear your house—even if you don’t follow the exact method you were taught—it still works.
Meditating and getting distracted by your to-do list? Maybe that’s okay. Maybe your relaxation is waiting on the other side of completing what the universe is nudging you to handle.
Doing a fire ceremony and scooping in the “wrong” direction? It’s still powerful.
Organizing a space? The first system might not be perfect. Not everything needs perfectly matching bins—cardboard is just fine.
Trying to avoid sugar and accidentally eating something with hidden ingredients? Move on. Do the best you can.
Now it’s your turn. Give yourself the same grace. Set the intention, loosen the reins, and see what happens when you stop chasing perfection.
Don’t have 60 minutes or the energy to declutter? Set a timer for 10 minutes.
Want a big shift but aren’t ready to hire me for Feng Shui? Move 27 things.
Start with the one thing you’ve been avoiding.
Remember… one step forward is action toward your goal. It’s the momentum the universe needs to see to trust that your dream is REALLY what you want—not just a wish to stay where you are. One ACTION.
Yesterday is gone. Five minutes ago doesn’t exist. The only thing we have is right now, and what we choose to create with our intention in this moment.
So let’s let go of perfection. Let’s choose intention. Because that’s where the real magic happens—where healing happens, where dreams unfold, where we allow life to surprise us in the best ways possible.
